Lately I have been all about experimenting with drug store lip products. It’s super fun because they are such a bargain! I start by reading reviews online and then I choose popular ones to try out. Some of them have been fails and others have become new staples for me. I decided to break down my thoughts on the 5 formulas that I have purchased and let you know whether each one is a LOVE IT or a LEAVE IT!
First, here is how my lips look naked and free of any product.
Now that you’ve seen my blank canvas, you can more easily compare the lip colors below!

1. Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in Hibiscus – $4.99 at Drugstore.com
Burt’s Bees makes a great chap stick, so I hoped this would be a great lip balm with a touch of color. The color I chose is called Hibiscus and is a sheer rose. It has very little color pay off and ends up looking very natural. A lot of people might like that but neither the moisture nor the color lasted very long at all. Both the color and the formula are a LEAVE IT.

2. Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch – $3.00 at Target
I absolutely love the packaging of this lip balm and it seems to have a cult following, so I figured I’d give it a try! The color I chose is Pink Punch which is a cool-toned pale pink. The color is sheer yet buildable, and I like that. However the formula is super thin and greasy! It is not moisturizing at all. After about 15 minutes, the color is gone and all you are left with is a greasy feel. Yuck! LEAVE IT!

3. NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Sydney – $5.99 at Ulta
I’m really picky when it comes to matte lipsticks because they can be so drying. I can’t stand that feeling of dry, tacky lips! But this formula had such amazing reviews I decided to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did, because I love it! It has buildable coverage and though it dries matte, it feels creamy and not dry or icky at all. It is not quite as long-wearing as some other matte lippies on the market, but I think that goes hand-in-hand with it not being drying. Plus I looove how it smells like cupcake icing! The color that I chose is Sydney, which is a cool-toned pastel pink. I will definitely be getting more colors and this is a definite LOVE IT!

4. Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Touch of Spice – $7.99 at Ulta
Ok I cheated a little on this one, because it wasn’t part of my haul along with the rest of these! I have owned this lippie for a while and it is one of my all time favorites. Like the NYX, it has a matte finish but has the same soft and creamy feel. Also like the NYX, it is not ultra long-wearing but I am happy to sacrifice that in order to have comfortable and moisturized lips. The color is the perfect 90’s supermodel pinky brown. Absolutely LOVE IT!

5. Revlon Colorburst Lip Butter in Strawberry Shortcake – $8.49 at Ulta
I couldn’t resist the cute pink packaging on the tube plus the reviews were good, so I decided to pick this one up. The formula is moisturizing without being greasy, and the color is just the right amount of sheer. The color I selected is Strawberry Shortcake which is a warm pink. I do like this lippie but it’s also nothing spectacular. I’m not sure if I would re-buy it but it is nice to have it around. I am on the fence as to whether this one is a LOVE IT or LEAVE IT!

Do you think you will give any of these a try? What are your favorite drugstore lippies?

I’m a big fan of the Revlon Lip Butters myself – Strawberry Shortcake is one of the few shades I don’t have! My absolute favourite drugstore lippie, though, is the Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain. Honey is the perfect MLBB shade and Crush is a lovely fuchsia for the colder months. I also have Rendezvous (orange), Lovesick (red), and Adore (darker red). They’re low-fuss, truly do stain, and are moisturizing. Very much staples in my collection.
