The other day I went a little crazy at Sephora (what else is new?). As is often the case, I went it looking for a foundation primer and left with 5 new goodies, none of which was foundation primer. However, before you roll your eyes TOO much at me, I had good reason for doing this! I went it looking for foundation primer because my foundation was looking patchy and oily after a few hours of wear, so I figured a primer would help me with this. I talked to a totally amazing makeup artist at the store and let him try a bunch of products out on me. He explained that I was actually probably not using the best foundation for my skin or the best skin care to go underneath. I never really thought about it this way before, but he told me that your skin care and foundation work together hand-in-hand and each should be considered when choosing the other. After he gave my skin a total makeover which resulted in me looking like a glowing Photoshopped princess, I went ahead and purchased the whole concoction that he used on me. You know when you go clothes shopping and you find a really cute skirt, only to get it home and find out that you have no tops to go with it? Well I feel like I have been making that mistake with makeup…I buy one or two things and it doesn’t go with what I am already using. Well, never again! My mom always told me it was good to buy full outfits, so I’m going to do that now with my makeup too. That brings me to what I bought:
1. Claudalie Vinosource S.O.S. Thirst Quenching Serum ($49)
I’ve never used a serum before my moisturizer before because I’m all about cutting out extra beauty steps when possible. But this stuff really makes a difference. It makes your skin sooo soft and helps my moisturizer go the extra yard in keeping my skin moisturized and balanced all day.
2. Kate Somerville Oil Free Moisturizer ($65)
Because of the Claudalie, I am able to use this lighter moisturizer afterwards. Both of these lightweight products work together to keep me hydrated but totally shine-free.
3. Lancome Teint Idole Ultra 24H Makeup (46.50)
New holy grail foundation fo sho. 90 Ivoire N is the perfect match for my skin and the formula is mostly matte with just a hint of dewiness. It has amazing medium coverage and is buildable. It keeps the shine at bay all day.
4. Make Up Forever 108 Large Foundation Brush ($36)
I already had a foundation brush, but this one blends in product so perfectly! It is amazing for even, high coverage. I blend with short, quick, even strokes rather than long painterly strokes like you would with a paint brush.
5. Laura Mercier Invisible Pressed Setting Powder ($35)
This is such a great setting powder. I dust it super lightly with a big fluff brush, concentrating on areas that get the most shiny (forehead and next to the nose). I put only the tiniest bit on my cheeks so that the dewiness of my foundation shows through.

I wore this outfit when Brian and I went shopping at Maxfield in Beverly Hills (one of Karl Lagerfeld’s favorite boutiques). My top and skirt are both from Dainty Jewell’s and my shoes are Louboutin. I am honestly in love with this skirt. I had been wanting a high-waisted full midi skirt and this one is just perfection. It makes me feel so elegant, and they even complimented it at Maxfield! If you’ve never heard of Dainty Jewell’s you should check them out. Their focus is on modest yet super chic clothing which I think is just amazing. They even have super cute bridesmaid dresses, my favorite of which is like the dress version of my top!

Do you love high-waisted full skirts as much as I do? What do you think about buying cosmetics in “outfits”?

You look like a stylish porcelain doll in these photos! Maybe the new foundation routine really IS working hahaha I’ve totally done that before at Sephora… I’ve gone in for a new eye cream and ended up leaving with the entire set of skincare products, or I ask them how to do a light powder contour and highlight and I end up buying everything they used.
That skirt is KILLER! It’s such a beautiful floral print and it’s perfect with that top. I feel like some florals can look cheap or childish, but this one is perfect. Also, I actually just purchased a high waisted skirt online today! They’re so flattering 🙂
