My New Years Resolution

Did you make a New Years resolution this year? I tend to think they are a bit cheesy so I have never made one before.  I’ve always figured that if you are inspired to change something in your life, you should do it whatever time of the year that you want.  However, I decided to actually have a resolution this year.  It was mostly a coincidence because I just happened conveniently think of it at the end of December, but hey!

My resolution for 2016 is to laugh at myself more.  I don’t think it’s healthy to take yourself too seriously.  It is easy to start to get a bit of an ego when you are a blogger; companies, PR agencies, and other bloggers are constantly flattering you so that you will collaborate with them, promote them, or toot their horns in other ways.  When people tell you 50 million times a day that your shit don’t stink, it’s a little hard to remember that it REALLY does and can, in fact, shut down a bathroom for several hours.

My blogger friend Rachel (check out her blog here) is of the same mindset, so we decided to start a page called Awkward Bloggers.  We would feature funny behind the scenes photos showing how truly unglamorous our lives are, and also accept submissions from other bloggers who wanted to share their bloopers as well.  Not only is it good for us and the other bloggers to keep our egos in check, but it is beneficial for the young women who admire social media fashionistas.  Bloggers tend to display an artificially flawless life through their photos, which is neither healthy for them nor for their audience.  My mission is to help women feel confident being their awkward, goofy selves and to feel comfortable laughing about it! At first I thought perhaps my goal was a little grandiose, but in the month since we started our page, we have had an absolute flood of bloggers wanting us to share their super silly photo fails.  I truly think it is possible for us to change this generation’s strange desire to be placed on a phony social media pedestal.
