“I think the reign of the mean girls is ending.
I think people are gravitating toward a more honest, more normal human.”
– Amy Schumer, Vogue July 2016
When I read this quote by Miss Schumer, a cluster of disorganized thoughts that had been milling around in my head suddenly sprang easily to my fingertips. Amy is noticing the same abrupt change in the entertainment industry that I am. As this era of normal, curvy models gradually gains momentum, women seem to be seeking realness in all aspects of popular media. Within the last few years, female role models have begun shifting from snooty A-list divas like Madonna and J-Lo to down-to-earth tomboys like Jennifer Lawrence and Lena Dunham. I see a sense of relief when women find a female public figure who appears authentic. This shift is taking place in fashion blogs as well. Blog readers as a whole seem to be slowly beginning to lose interest in the carefully-constructed faux lives that bloggers create online. They appear to be gravitating more toward honest, uplifting, and genuine content. I am hopeful that more and more girls will begin selecting healthier role models, rather than those on unreachable pedestals.
Have you noticed this shift taking place as well? Do you think there is an increase in healthy role models in the media?

Looking like the absolute stunning beaut you are Emily! Your pink hair is total goals and you rock flawless flower power oh so well 😉 Such a perfect pink paradisal backdrop too. Love! I definitely think you and Amy have nailed it; finally after a long crush with fake, airbrushed celebs as role-models, people now seem keen to look up to naturally authentic babes that have a certain badass feel to them but are still down to earth and relatable. Hopefully the reign of the nice girls is here to stay! <3
